A Southeastern developer and homebuilder has purchased land and other assets at Mixson, a mixed-use community that was part of the resurgence of North Charleston’s Park Circle area.
FrontDoor Communities, the buyer, said the deal included lots for single-family and town houses, the Mixson Bath & Racquet Club, Mixson Market and Basico restaurant.
A spokeswoman said the property was purchased from Jamestown but the price was not disclosed.
The Flats at Mixson apartments, which have been the focus of a dispute over their construction and were deemed uninhabitable by North Charleston, were not part of this transaction.
FrontDoor, along with a construction partner, plans to build 251 single-family and town houses at Mixson and make improvements to the businesses involved in the transaction. Several properties were built in the development starting in 2012.
The company said the deal also includes land for future development in the area. FrontDoor Communities owns property in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.
“We expect North Charleston to continue its growth trajectory, and we are delighted to be located near Park Circle,” FrontDoor CEO Terry Russell said in a news release. “Our residents will enjoy being part of a wonderful community with great parks, restaurants and shops to go along with easy accessibility to the airport and historic downtown Charleston.”
FrontDoor said it will partner with Eastwood Homes to build 80 town houses in Mixson, along with 171 new single-family homes. The town houses will cost from the high $200,000s to more than $300,000. Single-family homes will go up to more than $400,000, the news release said.
Eastwood operates in North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina, including in the Charleston and Greenville areas. The companies plan to construct model homes for opening this summer.
Russell said Mixson’s connectivity to surrounding communities made the property attractive to FrontDoor, which set up a web page for the new homes at Mixson.
“Having Park Circle in our backyard is a huge bonus and gives our residents enviable proximity to downtown Charleston, the airport and area job centers,” Russell said in a statement.
